George Wright Scogin
George Wright Scogin was born in 1840 in Alabama, son of Wright Scogin and Susan Hawthorne. His first name may have been Gabriel, and his middle name was often spelled "Right"; his name often appears as G.R. Scogin.
He married Nancy Elizabeth McClammy on February 06, 1859 in Monroe County, Alabama. Nancy was the daughter of Mark Lafayette McClammy and Nancy Johnson. ("Monroe and Conecuh County Alabama marriages 1833-1880")
George and Nancy were members of the Lone Star Branch of the Church of the Latter-Day Saints. George was ordained in the LDS church on March 17 1867.
G. R. and Nancy may have had a son, John Thomas Scoggins, on November 5, 1859.
They adopted a son, Oscar Coley Scogin, who was born in January, 1880. Oscar was blessed in the Lone Star Branch of the LDS church on June 29, 1883. Oscar's parents are unknown at this time.
Oscar married Viola Andrews about 1899 in Baldwin County, Alabama. They had 10 children.
George Wright Scogin died before 1900, and was buried in the Bay Minette Cemetery in Baldwin County, Alabama.
Nancy McClammy Scogin took in boarders on the family farm at Hurricane, Baldwin County, Alabama, after her husband's death. She was also granted 40 acres of land in Baldwin County in 1905.
Nancy died in 1918 and was buried with her husband in Bay Minette.
