Ephraim Coon

Ephraim was born in 1810 in New York or Kentucky with an unfortunate deformity - he had no feet.

"Going through life on his knees, Ephraim Coon brought up a large family and was esteemed sufficiently to be elected county treasurer....it became a county joke about the money being in Judge Coon's hands. He could not run away with anything!"
- Nacogdoches County Families, page 564

Ephraim married Nancy Keziah "Kissey" Garrett, and they were in Texas by 1844. They had 8 children: Edwin Forrest Coon, Washington Irving Coon, Louisa Jane Coon, Nannie Coon, Sarah Coon, Murilda Coon, John G. Coon, and Ephraim Lorenzo Coon.

Ephraim served at various times as Postmaster, Tax Assessor, and Justice of the Peace for Nacogdoches County

Ephraim and Kissey are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery near the Town Square in Nacogdoches.
